We are looking forward to resuming excavations at the Gioiella-Vaiano Villa site in the summer of 2021. We plan to continue excavation of the monumental nymphaeum discovered in 2019 and to work on connecting the Central Area of the site to the Bath Complex. Student participants contribute to all aspects of the project including excavation, documentation, and the inventorying of the finds. Through lectures and field trips students are introduced to the history and archaeology of Central Italy. Students can earn up to two course credits through the Umbra Institute.
Students who are interested in participating should consult the Umbra Institute Web Pages for updates and/or reach out to the project director, Prof. Rebecca Schindler (rschindler@depauw.edu).
